BestLawyerTips | News – The grandmother of the 7-year-old boy who was shot in the head at a Houston megachurch has stated that he has lost a “portion of his (brain’s) frontal lobe.” The child’s mother, the daughter-in-law, was shot and killed by police on Sunday inside televangelist Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church.
Walli Carranza said on Facebook on Thursday that the youngster “has lost a major part of what makes us who we are…a portion of his frontal lobe.” “Two surgeries performed in less than a day are required to remove half of his right skull.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, the frontal lobe of the brain regulates thinking, planning, problem-solving, movement, and short-term memory. Damage to it can impact higher order brain functions such as planning, motivation, and social interaction.
The grandmother added that the 7-year-old has experienced many episodes of cardiac arrest and that “no one can determine whether he has significant brain activity because his scalp tissue is too friable to allow the attachment of EEG wires.”
It is still unclear who caused the child’s injuries. CNN has asked the police for further details.
With 4,590 gun fatalities among those ages 1 to 19 in 2022, guns have emerged as the primary cause of mortality for children and teenagers in the US. At least half of the over 20 injured during this week’s horrific shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl celebration rally were youngsters.
The reason for the semi-automatic rifle shooting by 36-year-old Genesse Ivonne Moreno remains a mystery to investigators looking into the Texas megachurch case. Before Moreno was slain by law police, her son and a man were hurt. Carranza claims that Moreno was permitted to possess a firearm despite a history of mental health issues.
Carranza posted on Facebook on Monday, saying, “My daughter-in-law was a very sweet and loving woman when she was taking medication for schizophrenia.” “However, family members who seek emergency protections are doing so for the benefit of the ill person, not for their own benefit. Mental illness is a real illness.”
She commented that the massacre was a “completely preventable horror.”
